COMMUNICATION IN RELATIONSHIPS (continued)
The merger and acquisition scheme had finally come and gone and Seyis company was successfully able to acquire another struggling company but it was now time for management to decide who was staying and who was leaving. There was a lot of tension around as nobody was guaranteed his/her place, Seyi tried to maintain his cool and just hoped he wont be part of the lot to be sacked. After days of deliberations and numerous meetings a consensus was reached and out of about 6000 staffs in both companies, it was decided that 1500 should be retrenched. It wasn't long before letters started circulating, the atmosphere of the office had changed as it was filled with all kinds of emotions, while some were weeping at the loss of their jobs, others were celebrating the retainment of theirs and for some it was double celebration as they got retained and promoted.
Seyi had just gotten his letter which could go a long way in determining a lot of things in his life, he was hesitant to open it but after saying a short prayer he garnered a bit of courage and decided to find out what fate had in store for him. Seyi hadn't just retained his job, he was also promoted and asked to head one of their numerous branches, he was ecstatic and managed to keep his emotions to himself till the close of work.He had conquered one problem and the next thing that flashed through his mind was his family, he knew he had done so many wrong things and was thinking of a way to reconcile with his wife. As soon as he was done from work that day he headed home straight and when Gbemi heard the sound of his car pulling up in their driveway she was surprised because she didn't remember the last time he came home that early and all she could think of were negative thoughts. As he walked into the house he was a bit fidgety but as soon as he saw his wife he walked up to her and gave her a hug, she couldn't understand the sudden change of behavior but she played along, he then looked into her eyes and with a sober face now he apologized for everything he had done and although he didn't state the reasons for his actions she was too caught up in the mood she immediately said the three words he was dying to hear *I FORGIVE YOU* he then went on to plant a wet kiss on her lips and it seemed they had rekindled the fire of their love. They went out to have dinner that evening and while wining and dining he revealed the news about his job to his family and this got his wife even more excited. They talked, laughed and even made jokes about him being *OGA* and when they were done they headed back home. That night they had sex like never before till the wee hours of the morning. Gbemi was awoken by the soft hands of her husband caressing her tender skin and when she was finally able to get her eyes open she was surprised to see he had brought her breakfast in bed she was full of smiles as he kissed her on the forehead and after a brief chat he stood up and went to Tomike's room to get her to brush her teeth and take her bath.
While he was at it, she got a text from Ifeanyi telling her how much he missed her company and how he was craving her presence. She ignored it as the only reason why they were hanging out in the first place was because Seyi wasn't acting right and since he had shown a bit of remorse she felt it was time to end whatever it was Ifeanyi thought they had. Seyi had volunteered to take Tomike to the salon that afternoon and since she was going to be idle all day, she decided to go over to Ifeanyi's house to explain the situation of things to him and so she drafted a text to him telling him she was coming around soon in which he replied to the affirmative. She arrived at his residence at exactly 3pm as soon as he saw her he couldn't control his happiness and when he tried to hug her, she rebuffed him and then made way into his living room. He stood there astonished for a few seconds as he didn't understand what had just happened but joined her inside almost immediately. While inside they got talking and Gbemi went on and on explaining things to him and while this went on he never said a word and as soon as she was done he smiled and told her he was OK with her decision and it seemed to her that he had taken it in good strides but she was wrong. They decided to chat about other things and in between their conversation, he offered her a drink which she obliged to so he went into the fridge brought out a pack of fruit juice with cups for both of them, but unknown to her the drink had been spiked with libido enhancing drugs. After a while he went close to her and started fondling with her body, her mind and soul rejected this but her hormones were raging so much her body couldn't help it and that afternoon he raped her. After all had been done she couldn't bring herself to believe what had happened, she hurriedly wore her clothes and ran out of the house. She was angry, she was mad at herself, she was still in disbelief, she felt like the world was coming down on her and while driving home all she could think of was what if he has a disease??? what if she gets pregnant??? as he didn't use a condom and most importantly how would she explain it to her husband if the issue ever comes up. As soon as she got home, a distraught Gbemi took a shower, popped some sleeping pills and immediately went to bed. When Seyi got back from the salon with Tomike and found her sleeping, he woke her up to find out what was wrong, Gbemi in her defense blamed it on menstrual pain he then left her to sleep while he went to make dinner for Tomike. Four weeks had passed when Gbemi started falling ill and at first she thought it was fever, and then malaria but when the drugs she was taking wasn't relieving her of the sickness Seyi decided it was time she went to the hospital. The test result would come out to reveal a whole lot more than would have been expected.....results showed she was pregnant but Seyi instantly denied the paternity pregnancy as doctors had told him he had a low sperm count even before he married her and Tomike was only a blessing from God as immediately after they had her he was told he wouldn't be able to have a child again. And the question now was WHOSE BABY IS IT?. Right there and then a teary eyed Gbemi started telling the story to Seyi and he was very devastated. He wanted to get angry but at the same time could not as the original fault was from him because if she knew about his work issues from the start all she would have to do is encourage him and Ifeanyi might have never been in the picture. He loved her very much and was ready to do whatever to make his marriage work including having to accept the paternity of the baby. Ifeanyi was never let in on this story and for the rest of their lives they would have to live with this hurt.
Communication in relationships cannot be over emphasized as it is a key element of every successful relationship. No matter how bad something is telling might seem difficult but its always better knowing you have let it out than having to regret not doing so in future.
