OBSESSION (PART 5)

I just sat on the edge of the bed, fixated on the phone and lost in thought. I was trying very hard to decipher why Halima had taken it upon herself to make my life miserable but I couldn’t come up with a logical explanation for her erratic behavior.
The thought of opening the message to read her chat history with this mystery man filtered through my head and each time it came up, I shove the phone to one side of the bed and my face in the other direction as if to say I was not interested.

Then the phone beeped to signify another message had come in, as I scrambled to get hold of it, with so much hate and disgust in my eyes I turned around to check if the hypocrite of a woman wasn't awoken by the beep of the phone and my scrambling to get it. But no she wasn't, she just lay there like a log of wood and slept like a baby. I turned my attention back to the phone and hoped the message she had just received would serve as the final bait that I'd use to end whatever was between us.

Once again I scrolled through the phone and opened her BBM and when I saw who the message was from and what the first caption read, my heart literally skipped a beat and I didn’t know when I opened the chat.
I had seen Halima break another girls head in the past, I had witnessed Halima harass people in public male/female including myself, most recently she threatened to circulate nude pictures of me that she had taken after breaking into my house and raping me and just minutes earlier I found out she was in a romantic relationship with someone else, but what I just uncovered, jolted me so hard that at a stage I started to struggle to catch my breath.
"I have waited over two hours and you still haven't shown up. If I don't see you in the next twenty minutes our agreement would be off and I would be forced to tell him who you really are........" was the message Adamu my friend sent to Halima.

It didn't look right, neither did it sound right. I really could worry less about Halima but "what did Adamu have on her that would give him the guts to order her to his room at that time of the night that even my presence didn’t matter to him?....I said to myself.

Then I felt her legs wiggle behind me, I immediately ended the chat, threw the phone back into her bag and then quietly got under the duvet and acted like I had been sleeping all along.
I was no longer confused, I was beginning to get scared as the people I thought I once knew were starting to seem like strangers to me.
I then made up my mind to confront Adamu about everything the following day and as I forced myself to get some sleep, I felt Halima get up from my side but because I was facing the other way I couldn't see or tell what she was up to. I heard the clinging of the keys to the side drawers and after a while she closed it and made her way to the side of the room I was facing paced around for about five minutes and was even making faces at me, I guess that was a test to know if I was awake or not but I kept my calm and didn't fidget at all. After some minutes, she left the room and then I got up.
I went straight into her bag to check for her phone but it was gone, I could only assume she was headed to Adamu's room. After thirty minutes passed and she had not returned, I decided to go to the guest room where Adamu was sleeping to see for myself.

I got to the room and placed my ear on the door hoping to hear the sound of moaning or something of that sort but there was nothing, so I peeped through the key hole to try and get a view of the inside.
There was a gun on the table, Halima was seated on the chair and from what I could see and from the little I heard, I came to a conclusion that she was being made to forge a signature because she would scribble something on a paper, he would tear it off and hit her head with the butt of the gun and then tell her to attempt it again.

Then I remembered that the drawer Halima had opened earlier on was where I normally kept my cheque books and all my other important documents. So I dashed straight to my room, opened the drawer to make sure all my documents were safe and alas, all the cheque books I maintained with banks were I kept huge amounts of money were missing.

Without giving it a thought, I pulled out a box from under my bed, opened it and brought out the semi-automatic pistol I had inherited years back from my father. I put a round of bullets in it and headed back to Adamu's room.
In a rage of anger, I brought down the door to his room with a single kick and looked around but there was nobody there and before I could utter the words “Jack Robinson”, I felt something hard hit me from behind that sent me straight to the ground. I could hear people talk around me but I couldn’t see anything and soon after I passed out.
